This condition has several causes ranging from Irritable Bowel Syndrome to eating too much at once. These causes include:


There are certain diseases that may cause indigestion and these are:

  • Ulcers

  • GERD

  • Stomach cancer

  • Gastroparesis

  • Stomach infections

  • Irritable bowel syndrome

  • Chronic pancreatitis

  • Thyroid disease

  • Pregnancy


Medications:

  • Aspirin and other painkillers, such as NSAIDs like ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil), and naproxen (Naprosyn)

  • Estrogen and oral contraceptives

  • Steroid medications

  • Certain antibiotics

  • Thyroid medicines


Even as simple as your lifestyle can be a big factor in indigestion. These include:

  • Eating too much and too fast

  • Drinking too much alcohol

  • Cigarette smoking

  • Stress and fatigue


But in some cases, people have persistent indigestion without the causes mentioned above. This type of indigestion is called functional dyspepsia.


Indigestion is mostly mild and isn't that alarming. Although this condition doesn’t usually have serious complications, it can still affect your day-to-day routine by making you feel uncomfortable and may cause you to eat less.


This might cause you to miss school or work because of the symptoms. Especially when it is caused by an underlying condition, if not treated early it can also have its own complications.


May it be mild or not, whatever you’re feeling or if you feel different, then you should do something about it.


The majority of people with indigestion choose over-the-counter antacids to calm their stomachs, well you might want to try alleviating your symptoms by using natural or organic ingredients, herbs, or spices.

Baking soda or also called sodium bicarbonate is generally a safe and nontoxic product, however, consuming it in large amounts may give negative side effects such as constipation, diarrhea, vomiting, irritability, and muscle spasms.


According to a study, adults have no more than seven ½ teaspoons in a 24-hr period and no more than ½ teaspoons if you’re over the age of 60.


Prepare this remedy by adding in ½ teaspoon of baking soda with 4 ounces of warm water, then drink, Don’t repeat this for at least two hours if you’ve already drank ½ teaspoon.

Consume licorice root no more than 2.5 grams per day. Only consume licorice root 30 minutes or one hour before eating.

Additionally, you can try mixing cinnamon with boiling water to make tea, by doing these techniques two or three times daily, you may alleviate symptoms of indigestion temporarily.
